Both Kani and Mike entered the real estate field after successful careers in the airline industry. Mike spent 17 years as a pilot and trainer, as well as being an apprentice golf pro at Castle Oaks Golf Club for the last three years. Kani spent 14 years as a flight attendant, flying for West Air, US Air, and United. Both had the option of living anywhere in the world, but fell in love with Amador County. In 1999, they settled in Ione with their son, Mika'ele.
